Should the globe prepare for a shortage of battery metals?

While there is no evidence, based on current pricing of battery metals, that the world is facing a shortage of metals like copper, cobalt, lithium and nickel, Tesla has said that there is likely to be a shortage in the future. John Meyer, mining analyst and partner of SP Angel, says that any shortages are likely to be borne out of both increased demand and a shortage of supply. To this end, Meyer lists the metals and some of the suppliers and where some of the bottlenecks appear. Also, with a startling increase in fires at the world’s biggest battery energy storage facilities, which are in South Korea, does this ring alarm bells for electricity storage industry?
